The ACHA offers both on-site and outreach programs for senior citizens. Program include a slide lecture, guided discussion, and hands-on art making. Our focus is on building community, honoring the value of personal histories, and the connections to larger historical themes. Hands-on art projects taught by a qualified professional artist make the programs meaningful. Suggested length: 2 hours per program.

Remembering Family
Explore the books and written materials in the rich collections of the Albany County Historical Association with a presentation and images of the Ten Broeck Mansion and those who lived here. Create your own memory journal/art book, using decorative techniques used in the past including using marbleized papers, decorative inks, and more. All materials provided.
Timeless Treasures
Learn about all the ways that people at the Ten Broeck Mansion stored precious items – jewelry, letters, diaries and more. We will learn about the document boxes, letter boxes and letter-desks in the collections of the Albany County Historical Association and how they were used. Afterwards, we will create collaged treasure boxes to store our own precious memories – something to keep or give as a gift for the holidays. All materials provided.
Letters and Memories
Explore the written materials in the rich collections of the Albany County Historical Association with a presentation and images of the Ten Broeck Mansion and those who lived here. Create your own stationery, using hand-lettering techniques used in the past, and a hand-made Victorian Valentine’s Card (or other holiday – optional) to share with a loved one. All materials provided.
Garden Remembrances
Learn about the beautiful Ten Broeck Mansion Gardens – even if it’s the middle of winter! Enjoy the colorful sights of spring, summer and fall, and appreciate the beauty of winter as we tour the gardens in an illustrated lecture. Afterwards, we will create watercolor gardens based on our own memories – no experience necessary. All materials provided.
